Infertility Solutions
Infertility is the inability to become pregnant after trying for at least one year. Thousands of couples in Utah struggle with infertility; the cause can be related to either partner, both partners, or unknown causes. Ogden Clinic’s Women’s Health physicians understand the physical, mental, and financial stress of addressing infertility and are equipped to help couples with several of different approaches.
Ovulation Tracking
Ovulation typically occurs 14 days prior to the first day of your period. After tracking a few periods, count backwards to determine the day you ovulate; for example, a patient with 30 days between the start of one cycle to the start of another cycle would ovulate on day 16. That is 16 days after the start of her period (30 - 14 = 16). Ideally, intercourse should occur every day or every-other-day beginning four to five days before ovulation and continuing four to five days after ovulation.
Temperature Charts and Ovulation Kits
Patients may also keep temperature charts or do ovulation kits, but these options may be unnecessary if a woman is having regular periods. There are natural family planning techniques that can help identify ovulation as well. If periods are very irregular or greater than 35 days apart, temperature record charts may be helpful.
Lab Testing and Prescriptions from Our Experts
Ogden Clinic’s Women’s Health providers offer evaluation and work-up for infertility. Typical testing includes lab work, semen analysis, and a hysterosalpingogram (a radiology procedure to ensure the uterus is shaped normally and that the fallopian tubes are open).
When it comes to treatment, your Ogden Clinic OB/GYN may prescribe Clomid (a fertility drug used to stimulate ovulation), intrauterine insemination, hormonal treatment, ultrasound, and the use of ovulation predictor kits. Most fertility treatments are not covered by health insurance companies and may require out-of-pocket expenses. Please check with your insurance carrier for an explanation of your benefits.
